Discover the Davao Region: Where Culture, Adventure, and Nature Converge

The Davao Region, located in the southeastern part of Mindanao, is composed of the provinces of Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro (formerly Compostela Valley), and Davao City—the region’s bustling urban center.

Serving as the gateway to the region is Francisco Bangoy International Airport, also known as Davao International Airport, the third busiest airport in the Philippines. This accessibility, coupled with its unique geography, makes Davao a compelling destination for travelers.

A Climate Built for Exploration

One of Davao’s most distinctive features is its location outside the typhoon belt. This strategic positioning results in a relatively stable climate with evenly distributed rainfall year-round, perfect for year-round adventures and nature trips.

A Cultural Tapestry Like No Other

Davao is a true melting pot of cultures, home to indigenous communities such as the Bagobo, Mandaya, Mansaka, and Maguindanao. The locals—Dabawenyos and Dabawenyas—are known for their warmth, hospitality, and deep-rooted pride in their heritage.

Adding to this cultural blend is a strong Japanese influence, particularly in Davao City, where many Japanese immigrants once resided before World War II. Today, you’ll hear a mix of local languages such as Dinabaw, Visayan, Tagalog, and English, reflecting the region's diverse identity.

A Land of Endless Discovery

From towering mountains to vanishing islets, the Davao Region offers an impressive array of attractions and experiences:

  • Scale Mt. Apo, the highest peak in the Philippines and a favorite among trekkers and mountaineers.

  • Get up close with rare flora and fauna, including the iconic Philippine Eagle.

  • Dive into culinary adventures, especially dishes featuring the infamous yet beloved durian—a fruit that challenges your nose but wins over your taste buds.

Whether you’re wandering through the region’s progressive cities or exploring its hidden rural gems, Davao offers something for every kind of traveler.

Why Davao Deserves a Spot on Your Travel List

Davao doesn’t just promise adventure—it delivers it with soul. It's a place where tradition meets modernity, where nature flourishes alongside development, and where every visit becomes an opportunity to experience something new and unforgettable.

So pack your bags and get ready to explore a region that celebrates diversity, nurtures nature, and welcomes the world with open arms. In Davao, adventure isn’t just possible—it’s inevitable.

PROPOSED MASSIVE SOLAR FARM PROJECT HOPE TO ILLUMINATE DAVAO ORIENTAL'S FUTURE

MATI CITY, Davao Oriental
The proposed massive Yeung Marine Holdings Solar Farm Project, poised to provide a stable and cheap power source to the growing province, got overwhelming support from Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon.

Governor Malanyaon hopes this initiative will lessen the frequent power outages and interruptions in Davao Oriental. She also anticipates this will increase the province’s appeal to investors and business owners looking to establish business in the area and promote a healthier local economy.
“We cannot really capture more investments in Davao Oriental if we continue to have continued power shortage. So, this development is very much welcomed and needed by our province,” Malanyaon quipped, speaking with the investors at the Capitol.

The proposal is currently being discussed and is awaiting the completion of the memorandum of agreement to set the project in motion.

The massive solar farm project will locate its operation on a 40-hectare land in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental, where it will benefit from an average day length of 11 hours, free of shading and low latitude, which makes the angle of incidence upright during the brightest part of days. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, the project location can hold and supply up to 40 to 50 megawatts of power.

According to Yeung Marine Holdings, led by businessman Donny Yeung, which invests in agri-fisheries and renewable energy, the plant’s energy capacity will eventually increase from its initial 50MW. With this initiative, they also aspire to spur the province’s solar and renewable energy development, create more local employment, support local government revenue growth, and transfer technology and knowledge by strengthening and empowering local skill sets.

To help increase power generation and power up local offices, the group has also planned to construct and install rooftop solar panels on provincial government buildings, including the Provincial Capitol, Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center, Subangan Museum, and the Davao Oriental State University.

It is anticipated that the solar farm project will require around two years to complete all necessary clearances and permits, site construction, and component installation before it can begin operating. Considering this, Yeung Marine Holdings has also advocated using electric-powered battery units as an additional alternate power source while consumers wait for the full operation of the solar farm.

Alternatively, the group will offer the equipment and batteries to power the consumers’ homes directly. As the battery’s power runs out, users can bring it to a charging station (which Yeung Marine Holdings will also construct) and acquire a brand-new, fully charged battery. “Consider using an LPG tank as an example; after it is empty, you take it to a station to purchase a new one that has been filled,” said one company representative.

Given that they are a new player in the energy industry in Davao Oriental and that he wants people to experience the kind of service they provide, Donny Yeung assured that they would offer lower rates to their consumers.
