MATI CITY, Davao Oriental
The proposed massive Yeung Marine Holdings Solar Farm Project, poised to provide a stable and cheap power source to the growing province, got overwhelming support from Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon.

Governor Malanyaon hopes this initiative will lessen the frequent power outages and interruptions in Davao Oriental. She also anticipates this will increase the province’s appeal to investors and business owners looking to establish business in the area and promote a healthier local economy.
“We cannot really capture more investments in Davao Oriental if we continue to have continued power shortage. So, this development is very much welcomed and needed by our province,” Malanyaon quipped, speaking with the investors at the Capitol.

The proposal is currently being discussed and is awaiting the completion of the memorandum of agreement to set the project in motion.

The massive solar farm project will locate its operation on a 40-hectare land in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental, where it will benefit from an average day length of 11 hours, free of shading and low latitude, which makes the angle of incidence upright during the brightest part of days. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, the project location can hold and supply up to 40 to 50 megawatts of power.

According to Yeung Marine Holdings, led by businessman Donny Yeung, which invests in agri-fisheries and renewable energy, the plant’s energy capacity will eventually increase from its initial 50MW. With this initiative, they also aspire to spur the province’s solar and renewable energy development, create more local employment, support local government revenue growth, and transfer technology and knowledge by strengthening and empowering local skill sets.

To help increase power generation and power up local offices, the group has also planned to construct and install rooftop solar panels on provincial government buildings, including the Provincial Capitol, Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center, Subangan Museum, and the Davao Oriental State University.

It is anticipated that the solar farm project will require around two years to complete all necessary clearances and permits, site construction, and component installation before it can begin operating. Considering this, Yeung Marine Holdings has also advocated using electric-powered battery units as an additional alternate power source while consumers wait for the full operation of the solar farm.

Alternatively, the group will offer the equipment and batteries to power the consumers’ homes directly. As the battery’s power runs out, users can bring it to a charging station (which Yeung Marine Holdings will also construct) and acquire a brand-new, fully charged battery. “Consider using an LPG tank as an example; after it is empty, you take it to a station to purchase a new one that has been filled,” said one company representative.

Given that they are a new player in the energy industry in Davao Oriental and that he wants people to experience the kind of service they provide, Donny Yeung assured that they would offer lower rates to their consumers.
