THE LAST STOP: Philtranco to Cease Operations After 111 Years
Davao City, Mindanao — Isang makasaysayang pangalan sa Philippine highways ang magpapaalam na. Philtranco Service Enterprises Inc. has announced that it will permanently cease operations effective March 30, 2026, ending its 111-year legacy in the country’s transport industry.
Sa memorandum dated February 2, 2026, sinabi ni President and CEO Michael M. Sabban na ginawa ang desisyon nang may “heavy heart and deep regret,” matapos ang matagal na pagkalugi at exhausting all possible options to keep the company running.
The closure will affect hundreds of employees, as management admitted hindi na kayang i-sustain ang payroll and daily operations.
Founded in 1914 (originally as ALATCO), Philtranco became a symbol of long-distance travel—connecting provinces, families, and generations of Filipino commuters for over a century.
Come March 30, the country says goodbye to one of the oldest transport icons in Asia.
