Philtranco to Cease Operations on March 30, 2026, Ending 111-Year Legacy
Davao City, Mindanao — A historic name in Philippine highways is set to bid farewell. Philtranco Service Enterprises Inc. has announced that it will permanently cease operations effective March 30, 2026, bringing to a close its 111-year legacy in the country’s transport industry.
In a memorandum dated February 2, 2026, President and CEO Michael M. Sabban said the decision was made with a “heavy heart and deep regret,” following prolonged financial losses and after exhausting all possible options to keep the company operational.
Management acknowledged that the company can no longer sustain payroll expenses and daily operations, a development that will affect hundreds of employees.
Founded in 1914 as the Auto Bus Lines Transportation Company (ALATCO), Philtranco grew to become a symbol of long-distance travel in the Philippines. For over a century, it connected provinces, families, and generations of Filipino commuters across the archipelago.
With its final day of operations set for March 30, the country prepares to say goodbye to one of the oldest transport icons in Asia.
